Newspaper transcript – Rutherglen Soldier Killed in Belgium. Mr. Michael Colrain, 12 Regent Street, Rutherglen, has received the sad intelligence from an official source that his son Bartholomew has been killed in action in Belgium. Deceased was born in the Maryhill district of Glasgow 24 years ago, but resided with his parents in Rutherglen since childhood. He was employed as a miner at Newton collieries before attaching himself to his regiment, the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Poor Bartholomew’s father has other three sons and a son-in-law each doing his bit for King and country at the front.
