Newspaper transcript – Mr David Barrie, 132 Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, has received notice from the War Office of the death of his son, Private D. Barrie, 9th Scottish Rifles, who was killed in action on September 25. His servant, writing to his father, said he was recommended along with others, for assisting to bring in a wounded man who was 30 yards from the German trenches. Deceased was 24 years of age, and before the war was employed in Alexander and Son’s Chair Work, Rutherglen.
