Newspaper transcript –Mr John Anderson, 18 Cathcart Street, Rutherglen, who had seven sons in active service has received intimation of the death of one of them, and that another has been wounded and is a prisoner in Germany. The names and ages of the sons are:- Private James (31), 12th H.L.I.; Private Alexander (29), Royal Scots; Able Seaman John (27), RNR; Private William (25), 1st H.L.I.- prisoner of war in Germany; Private Archibald (23),  A.S.C.; Private George (21), 1st Scottish Rifles – killed in action at Neuve Chapelle; Private Robert (19), 1st H.L.I. Mr Anderson himself applied to be admitted into the Army, but was refused due to defective vision.
