Newspaper transcript – Pte. J. Wiseman, Cambuslang. Mr and Mrs Archibald Wiseman, 3 Ardoch Gardens, Cambuslang, have had intimation that their eldest son, Private James Wiseman, H.L.I., was killed on January 23. He was was 30 years of age, and was previously a painter with Messrs Barrie and Wiseman, Cambuslang. He leaves a widow and two children.

Newspaper transcript – Cambuslang Family’s Sacrifice. Three Sons Killed in Action. Cambuslang Saturday. The war has imposes a heavy sacrifice upon Mr and Mrs Archibald Wiseman, a well-known Cambuslang couple, who have just been officially notified that their third and last son has been killed in action.
Lowis Gunner John Wiseman, the youngest of three lion-hearted brothers who joined up early in the war, made the supreme sacrifice in his 20th year. In civilian life he was a chemist the laboratory of James Dunlop & Co., Ltd., at Clyde Ironworks, Tollcross.
Sergt. Claude Wiseman, aged twenty-nine, joined up in Canada and was killed at Vimy Ridge.
Pte., James Wiseman, who joined the H.L.I., in the first year of war, lost his life at Cambrai.
*Both of James’ brothers were also killed in WWI. Sergeant Claud Wiseman, Canadian Infantry died 9/4/1917. Private John Wiseman, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders died 24/3/1918. All three brothers are remembered on Cambuslang’s Cenotaph, Strathaven’s Cenotaph and on the family headstone in Strathaven cemetery.
