Newspaper transcript – Mrs Burns, 33 Cathcart Road, Rutherglen, has received intimation from the War Office that her husband, Private Phillip Burns, H.L.I., was killed in action on July 3. He was 27 years of age and leaves five children. Before enlisting he was employed as a miner at Aikenhead Colliery, and his brother, Private William Burns, Scottish Riffles, was killed in action in December 1914.
