Newspaper transcript – Rutherglen Territorial Killed. Sapper Samuel Fleming (23), of the 1st Lowland Field Coy., R.E. (T.), has been killed in France. 
He resided with his aunt, Mrs. McCall, 22 Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, who received the following letter from Major Arthur:- “I regret to inform you that Sapper Fleming was killed in action on 9th May, bravely doing his duty. His loss is sincerely felt by all his officers and comrades, who send your their deepest sympathy.”
Sapper Fleming was employed before the war at Messrs. Stewart’s & Lloyd’s at Rutherglen.
