Cargilfield School and Fettes College, Edinburgh; gazette 2nd Lieut. 3rd Battn. Cameronians, 16 Feb. 1905, transferred to 2nd Battn. 16 Feb. 1907 promoted Lieut. 13 Oct. 1909, and Capt. 3rd Nov. 1914 and appointed Adjutant 8 Feb. 1915. He was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle 10 March 1915 and was buried there; a comrade wrote: “One of those whose memories will never be forgotten and whose deeds will add to the glories of the old regiment.
