Newspaper transcript – Mrs Burke, 75 Elderpark Street, Govan, has received official notification of the death in action of her son, Sapper William Burke, 1st Field Company, Lowland Division, R.E. (Territorials), Airdrie, who was wounded on the 2nd and died on the 4th inst. He was 21 years of age, and before being called up was an apprentice boilermaker in Harland and Wolfe’s, Irvine. Sapper Burke was killed by a sniper. He had served four years in his regiment before the outbreak of the war.
