The following appeared in the Glasgow Evening Times on 25th September 1915 – Mr and Mrs Alexander Sloan, 4 Barnflat Street, Rutherglan have receive official intimation of the death of their eldest son, William Campbell Sloan, at the Dardanelles. He was wounded on September 2 and died on the 12th. He joined the 7th H.L.I. at the beginning of the war ? the Dardanelles in May of this year. He was an apprentice plumber with Messrs. Rankin and Sons, 20 years of age and was much respected by all who knew him.
