Newspaper transcript – Pte. David Murray is the eldest son of Colour-Sergt. John Murray, who is at present stationed at Rumbling Bridge. Pte. Murray was killed by a bursting shell. He was a popular young man in Maybole. He was employed as a shoemaker prior to the outbreak of war. He resided at Cottage Road, Maybole.
The news of the death of both men was received in a letter from Major John Russell, who states that the C. Company was subjected to shell and rifle fire from the Turks, and a bursting shell sent splinters into the trench striking Private Murray in such a vital place that he succumbed shortly after admission to hospital.
Commemorated on the Maybole War Memorial and in East Parish Church, Rutherglen.
