McEwan

McEwan Family

The McEwan family’s origins can be traced back to approximately 1842, when William McEwan was born in Ireland. Around 1859, he established a committed partnership with Catherine Lynch, although they were unable to marry due to Catherine’s previous marriage, from which she could not obtain a divorce. William earned his livelihood as a hawker, leading the family to relocate within Kilmarnock and its neighbouring areas. During their union, William and Catherine welcomed eight children into their lives. Tragically, Catherine passed away in 1879.
Around 1885, William entered into a second relationship, but regrettably, the surname of his second wife, Annie, remains elusive in available records. After the 1901 census, there are no further documented records of William’s life.
